The Creative Mile Brentford Art Trail aims to showcase the community's unique, creative talents in an event this weekend.

Describing itself as "an artist-led celebration of Brentford's creativity and hidden spaces", The Brentford Art Trail will shine a light on the areas creative history and hidden gems.

On its website, the organisation refers to the stretch of Brentford as "London's most creative mile", citing the Duke of London, Johnsons Island, the Musical Museum and Studio Fox among the areas iconic art venues.

Flowing right through the heart of Brentford, the trail will follow a sign-posted one-mile pedestrian route connecting 8 art venues exhibiting over 50 artists, this weekend.

The event will bring together makers from Brentford and across the borough of Hounslow for a weekend of open studios and exhibitions, led by locally based artists.

The trail will start with an opening event on 3 September 6-8pm, with most venues open 11am-5pm on 4 and 5 September.

Exhibitors will include painters, ceramicists, printmakers, and sculptors.

Co-chair and artist Mr Pearce said: "I originally got the idea of a Brentford art trail when I had a studio on Johnsons Island.

"One of the things I noticed was how many people coming to our open studios would say that they had lived in the area for years and never knew we were there.

"This got me thinking about how we could increase awareness and I thought maybe the best way would be by joining forces with other artists, museums and art centres so we did something together.

"Brentford has a great creative community, and I hope that this event will give artists working in the area a chance to showcase their work to a wider audience and has the potential to become an annual event that will grow year by year."

The Creative Mile will begin at the Museum of Water and Steam, the former Kew Pumping Station, which previously provided 70% of London's water supply, and now houses artist studios.

Visitors will be offered a glimpse into Brentford's industrial past, as well as a closer look at the creative riverside community that dwells there today.
