Brentford got their second win of the season after two months thanks to screamers from Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos, despite a confusing video assistant referee (VAR) decision.

Brentford's final 3-0 triumph was well-deserved and marked their best performance of the season under Thomas Frank.

However, Brentford fans had to endure a moment of trepidation when their opening goal was bizarrely disallowed. It was another moment in the ongoing saga of clear and obvious VAR errors.

Entering the game sitting 15th in the league, Brentford squared off against the newly promoted Burnley led by Vincent Kompany.

From the outset, Burnley's defence struggled and look weak every time a cross was sent their way which raises questions on if they can continue to compete in Premier League.

Burnley fans had to witness their team's seventh defeat in nine games this season.

Neal Maupay, aiming to secure his first goal since returning to Brentford, believed he had found the net when Nathan Collins headed the ball across goal.

The linesman flagged Collins offside from Bryan Mbeumo's free-kick. Replays made it abundantly clear that Collins was onside, with Kristoffer Ajer positioned behind him.

Rather than overturning the decision and allowing the goal, VAR ruled that Ajer had interfered with play and disallowed the goal.

Ajer was not close to the ball, making it an obvious error from VAR...again.

Brentford dominated the first half, exposing Burnley's defensive vulnerabilities.

Frank's team eventually found the back of the net through Maupay, who unlocked Burnley's defense to set up Yoane Wissa's goal.

It was the only goal of the first half but could have been more as Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford made a couple of important stops.

In the second half, Frank's frustration boiled over when Burnley played on despite Mbeumo going down injured.

He later apologised fourth official Darren England for his heated words after Mbeumo, back on his feet, curled a sensational shot into the top corner to extend Brentford's lead.

Burnley's day went from bad to worse as substitute Luca Koleosho missed a golden opportunity, and Connor Roberts received a second yellow card for tugging Wissa's shirt.

VAR can only intervene in straight red card situations, but the big screen displayed 'VAR CHECKING RED CARD' despite it being a double yellow card offense.

As the rain poured down at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford substitute Saman Ghoddos showcased his skills by controlling the ball on his chest and delivering a late screamer to seal the 3-0 rout.

Thomas Frank was pleased with his player's performance repeating that he was "satisfied" with the game as whole.

He said after the game: "It is very satisfying to win today, keep a clean sheet and score 3 goals.

"it's gives us extra confidence. The clean sheet is important but more that we gave nothing away"

When asked how he was going to celebrate the win and reaching five years with the club, he said: "a bit of tapas with my wife."

Vincent Kompany was the opposite in his assessment of his team's performance against Brentford.

"Overall, its not good enough, said Kompany.

He added: "Going into the second half only one nil down is flattering…we should've made more of it"

"I think at this moment in time, we have tough games and results but it's a long league and we have time to pick it up."
