Brentford striker Ivan Toney could receive a ban of six months after admitting to charges of breaching FA betting rules.
Toney, as reported in the Daily Mail, has pleaded guilty to many of the 262 charges that were brought against him in November and December last year, for historic betting from between February 2017 and January 2021.
The FA will go through his response before scheduling a hearing, at which point an Independent Regulatory Commission will reach a verdict and decide upon his punishment.
Sky Sports News are reporting that they anticipate his ban to be at least six months, but that the ban would include the summer months and so it would not all be served during the football season.
Former-QPR and Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton was previously given an 18-month ban in 2017 after being charged with having placed 1,260 bets on football matches between 2006 and 2017.
England international and Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier was also given a ten-week ban and fined £70,000 while playing for Atletico Madrid for seven alleged breaches of FA betting rules which forbids anyone in the game giving information to others to be used for betting.
Under FA rules, players, coaches, managers, club staff, directors, and licensed agents in the Premier League, EFL, National League, Women's Super League, Women's Championship, and the Northern, Southern, and Isthmian Leagues are all banned from betting on any football globally.
The rules also prohibit betting on any other footballing activity, like transfers or managerial appointments, nor can you give inside information to someone else for the purpose of gambling.
