Hounslow Council's acclaimed video about the impacts of dementia on family life, Glimpses, has been nominated for a second major film award.

The four-and-a-half-minute-long film has been shortlisted for the upcoming Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Shots Awards, which take place in London later this month.

Glimpses follows the lives of Hounslow mum Saima and her son Adam, as they come to terms with her diagnosis of dementia. It follows the challenges they face as the condition takes hold.

It leaves the viewer with the uplifting message that: In Hounslow you are never alone.

Glimpses has been shortlisted in the Charity section of the EMEA awards, where it joins videos from organisations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Age UK, Women's Aid, and the Child Poverty Action Group.

Glimpses director Lauren Midwinter said: "I'm thrilled that 'Glimpses' is nominated for SHOTS EMEA 'Charity Ad of the Year'. We are in a category with some brilliant films, so it's a great testament to the 'Glimpses' cast and crew who put their all into this film."

The ad was filmed entirely on location in the borough and was informed by the real-life stories of people living with dementia.

Hounslow Council worked with Hounslow-based not-for-profit video production company Capture Minds to create the film.

The Council's Adult Social Care team and partner organisations such as The Alzheimer's Society, provided the background and technical details for the production.

Glimpses has already been chosen to be showcased as part of the international Aesthetica Film Festival, a qualifying event for the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), which is also running this month.

Hounslow Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Transformation, councillor Samia Chaudhary, said: "Glimpses was our tribute to all those people in our borough who are living with dementia and their carers and families.

"We are incredibly proud of the video and the amount of talent, hard work and passion that went into making it.

"We intended to produce something that would act as a guide to anyone who are going through a diagnosis of dementia and to give them the message that with the right support, people living with this condition can continue to lead active and fulfilling lives for a considerable length of time."

The Shots Awards celebrate inspirational and creative work from across the three regions. A panel of industry experts have reviewed all the entries to whittle the shortlist in the Charity section down to just 12 films - of which Hounslow's is one.

The awards ceremony will take place at The Londoner in Leicester Square on Wednesday, 22 November.
