Punjabi Musical Mela taking place at Watermans on 9th April

The Pothohar Association UK and the Tongues on Fire UK Asian Film Festival are going to be hosting the Punjabi Musical Mela at Watermans on Sunday 9th April. 

The Punjabi Musical Mela, which is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, is a celebration of Punjabi culture which will see events like kit flying, bhangra workshops, henna, and vendors selling traditional Punjabi handicrafts and clothing. 

The event is free and does not require tickets, and it will run from 11am until 6pm on Sunday 9th April at Watermans in Brentford. 

The Mela will kick-off at 11am with kite flying, a magician, and stalls featuring henna, clothes, and jewellery, participants will also be able to sign up for a free Bhangra Workshop with renowned performer Hardeep Sahota from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. There is also a free Sangeet Workshop with Abda Khan exploring the origin of many Punjabi folk songs. 

At 1:15 pm, there will be an official opening with local MPs and the leader of Hounslow Council  

The Punjabi Music Performances will begin at 2:00 pm in the theatre and will require tickets, priced at £10/8, which you can book online at watermans.org.uk  

The performances will start with a Bhangra performance by Hardeep Sahota (VIRSA), supported by Bhangra Dance London, before taking the audience on a folk journey with sister duo Sukhi and Sonu. Their performances will include traditional folk songs and much more.  

Taking the audience on a journey through Sanjha Punjab (United Punjab before Partition) will be Faizan Ali Khan and his brother Nadir, who are grandsons of legendary Classical Singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan & Nazakat Ali Khan.
