Hounslow Council planning committee approves application for a temporary marquee in Syon Park to be built which has previously provided events to the area for the past 16 years.
The proposal sought planning permission to provide a temporary marquee next to Syon House which would be used during the summer periods for a ten year period (May 2024 - September 2033).
In the past, the marquee has provided wedding events for the last 16 years which has provided additional revenues to the Syon Park Estate.
After consultations, the applicants amended plans which would see the marquee rotated 90 degrees and the roof materials be a dark green colour.
On the application it said: "The proposal has now been amended so that it sits 90 degrees to the previous marquee so that the massing of the roof-line is broken up and creates a more traditional appearance of a role and pole structure.
"The gable roof end from the river view would be coloured dark green, which would be a bespoke colour to this site."
Councillor Dan Bowring mentioned environmental concerns he has with the planning application surrounding the marquee, saying it's supported by "dirty" energy and wants to ensure that the marquee uses cleaner energy, like solar panels, going forward.
Cllr Bowring said: "I am just concerned, its had (planning) permission for 16 years and the amount that the plannings changed in terms of net zero in 16 years is massive. I can imagine the amount it's going to change in 10 years time is massive.
"It's a bit disappointing considering they've got a lot of land that is not viewable that they didn't consider putting in some solar panels for power."
He added: "Is it possible, if the committee minded, to change the tenure permission to something like a two year permission with the understanding that we expect them to come back with a renewable energy solution.
"And a more minor point on recycling these events of up to 500 people can generate more waste than an average resident would in a year and the only thing it says here: 'caterers and clients are encouraged to recycle' so can we give that anymore more teeth."
Head of Development Management, Matthew Rees replied: "The frustrating answer in terms of sustainability is that there is a threshold above which we can really impose ourselves in sustainability.
"In terms of what we can and can't control around sustainability, it kind of falls below this threshold of which we can start to refuse applications."
Rees added: "We can be firmer in the wording of recycling and that condition."
The planning committee unanimously approved the application. To see the full report on the approved planning application, click here.
