Watermans has raised £50,000 in less than a week of launching its emergency appeal to secure the future of the Brentford arts and culture centre.

Now it is appealing to local people to help it reach a £60,000 target by the weekend.

The centre has seen its revenue drain away during the recent national lockdown.

Its director, Jan Lennox, says people have been saying they do not want to lose what is one of Brentford's community gems.

Jan thanked local people, saying: "Thank you. Thank you for donating and for sharing. Thank you for telling us time and again you don't want a future without Watermans, and for telling us how important Watermans is to individual lives, families and your community.

"It's given us confidence that we can do this together. So now we are thinking big.

"Help us reach £60,000 by this weekend. If you haven't given yet, please don't delay. If you've given already, thank you. And please tell your friends!

"Every action, no matter how small, will help us get to our target and make sure that Watermans can survive this pandemic. "
