According to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, councils across the UK brought in £1.9 billion in parking charges from 2022/23.

In the previous year, parking activities across London generated a profit of £536 million. This total encompasses revenue from sources like fines, as well as income from pay-and-display services, after deducting associated expenses.

Hounslow Council dished out £13 million worth of parking fines, while neighbours Ealing gave out £23.5 million in fines and Hammersmith and Fulham £24.4 million.

Lambeth issued £50.5 million worth of fines last year, which is more than any council in the UK. Westminster gave out the next most at £36.5 million, followed by Newham with £29.5 million.

Brighton & Hove made the most from parking charges out of any local authority outside of London, bringing in £11.6 million last year.

Its council made a profit of £30.2 million from all forms of parking charges, which is also the most of any council outside of the capital.
