TfL (Transport for London) have announced that there will be no Congestion Charge between Christmas Day and New Year's Day bank holiday.

The Congestion Charge is a £15 daily charge if you drive within the Congestion Charge zone 7-6pm Monday-Friday and 12-6pm Saturday-Sunday and bank holidays.

The public transport service will also be pausing ULEZ this year but for one day - Christmas Day.

In the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emisson Zone), drivers must pay £12.50 daily if their car is non-compliant which generally includes pre-2005 petrol and pre-2015 diesel cars.

TfL says: "The aim of the ULEZ is to help improve air quality by reducing the number of vehicles in London that don't meet emissions standards."

The Congestion Charge zone was set up by former mayor Ken Livingstone in Central London back in 2003 to help reduce high traffic and reduce air and noise pollution in the central London area.
