Hounslow Council last night agreed to fund a number of major projects in the borough, including replacing the roof lantern on Brentford Library.

The council is to spend £85,000 on the lantern at the library which has undergone major refurbishment over the last year.

Councillors also agreed funding for improvements to leisure centres, a footbridge at Dukes Meadow and a major tree-planting programme in parks and open spaces.

Cabinet agreed to spend the following:

  • £523,000 on a flood management plan across the borough
  • £73,000 on tree planting in 31 parks and open spaces
  • £59,000 on Chromebook laptops for adult education courses
  • £31,000 on an English for carers programme
  • £434,000 on an electric vehicles charging scheme
  • 11,191,000 on energy improvement in corporate buildings
  • £426,000 on a food waste collection programme
  • £2,850,000 on the Gunnersbury Estate
  • 2, 844,000 on a fleet replacement programme
  • 1,049,000 on work on leisure centres and public halls
  • 1,000,000 on Dukes Meadow footbridge
