Two Brentford leisure facilities are to be reopened after the area went into tier 2 restrictions.

Hounslow Council has announced that Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre, dry facilities, will reopen on Monday (14 December).

This will be followed by the reopening of Brentford Fountain pools on Monday 21 December.

The council always maintained that it would take a phased approach to reopening borough facilities.

It said there had been challenges along the way including boiler failures, installing COVID-secure measures and Brentford Fountain being proposed as an NHS mass vaccination site.

Users of these spaces as well as members of staff have now been allowed to start returning to their venues to use gyms and public hall spaces.

More information on the remainder of the council's newly-acquired public spaces re-opening will follow in the coming weeks as part of the next phases of the process.

Cllr Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: "It's great to have announced the first two phases of reopening our leisure centres and public halls.

"Seeing people safely return to the venues that they love and depend on makes me feel optimistic for the future.

"We've had our share of challenges over the last weeks, but I want to thank local communities for their patience and am positive the changes these vital spaces are undergoing will be for the better."
