Brentford people have been wondering why the skies in the far distance have been glowing orange at night.

On Thursday, the sky was so orange that some people thought there must have been a massive fire not too far away.

There have also been glowing skies around Brentford's new stadium.

People in nearby Twickenham were so alarmed they thought the rugby stadium was on fire and the brigade were called out.

But it turns out special lights are turned on to maintain undersoil heating at sporting venues at nights.

Rugby Football Union's head groundsman Jim Buttar said: "This is why! Major light refraction but plenty of warmth to back up the under soil heating. A couple of degrees could mean an extra day on the other side!"

The picture above was taken from Brentford Dock on Thursday night.
