Brentford cake-maker Emilia Jovanova is a familiar face to those who visit Brentford Market.

And her Jaffa Cake will be familiar to their tastebuds – the delicious speciality is always the first to sell out on market days.

Emilia, who runs her own Brentford-based cake-making company called Emilia's Sweet House, has been making cakes since she was a child in her native Macedonia.

She said: "Ever since I was young I have enjoyed making cakes which my mother taught me to do. And it's just something I continued doing when I grew up and turned what was a hobby into a business."

All Emilia's cakes are baked using fresh ingredients bought locally. She said: "I bake from scratch. I use natural ingredients such as fresh milk, free-range eggs and fresh fruit.

"I never use colouring or artificial flavourings in my cakes. I also keep the cakes as healthy to eat as possible by using less sugar."

All her cakes are popular, but the Jaffa Cake is the big seller. "It's always the first to go when I have my stall at the Brentford Market."

Emilia is now looking to supply her cakes to more local cafes and restaurants in the area.

And she will also be setting up her stall at this Sunday's Brentford Christmas Market.
