A new interactive map has shown that parts of Brentford and Chiswick will be under water by the year 2100.
The interactive map from Climate Central allows users to scan forward years in the future up to 2150 to show which areas will be threatened by rising sea levels and coastal flooding.
The data is based upon the latest sea-level projections, using data from the Sixth Assessment Report and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the 2022 Sea Level Rise Technical Report from the interagency US Government task force.
The map shows that the riverside area around Kew Bridge will regularly be submerged by annual flooding, including large parts of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Syon House, and Brentford High Street.
Other parts of Hounslow would also be beset by flooding as the majority of Chiswick will be hit by annual flooding by the year 2100, with areas even up to Chiswick Park Underground Station being below the model's predictions of the where sea levels will be impacting.
Sea levels around Britain have risen by about 15cm since 1900, and with the acceleration of global warming in recent decades, the Met Office predicts modern levels could increase by another metre by 2100.
