The government needs to provide urgent financial support in this third lockdown, Brentford and Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury has said.

The MP says many local people have told her they are struggling to make ends meet and she has urged the chancellor to make changes to Universal Credit and end the exclusion of three million "excluded" from support packages such as freelancers.

The aviation industry has been devastated by lockdown restrictions which has affected communities around Heathrow such as Brentford. She called on the government to provide more help for aviation.

Ms Cadbury said: "I know how tough the last few weeks and months have been for many people locally.

"That's why I urged the government to make urgent changes to the economic support which will go a long way to help many of my constituents whose income has crashed over the last 10 months.

"Universal Credit claims have more than doubled in my constituency and many residents have told me that it barely or fails to cover the cost of their rent, while those with mortgages have to wait for 9 months to get additional support.

"On top of that the Government need to stop sitting on their hands and give those working in the aviation sector the support they desperately need.

"Over 20,000 jobs in Hounslow rely on the sector and the supply chain and we need to see action from the Government.

"Finally, I urged the Government to end the injustice of excluding people from financial support - so many people locally from a wide range of sectors, such as the self-employed and those who started their own business have not been treated fairly."
