A second national lockdown kicks in on Thursday for one month. But will that be the end of it? What do Brentford people think about the lockdown and do they think Christmas is in the balance?
Brentford Nub News took to the high street to canvass your feelings and opinions.
Janis Stapleton,23, said: "I think it is necessary as the virus is still spreading. It's going to be harder this time though because when we went into lockdown in March the weather was getting better and people could get out. Now, the weather is turning horrible as we go into winter so I think this is going to be harder for people. I think the lockdown will last well into next year, I can't see people being allowed to move around the country to go home at Christmas."
Lorna Davies,46, said: "I have a shop in Hammersmith selling cards and confectionary and it's so frustrating to be forced to close again. My business will be OK if we can open in the run-up to Christmas but I fear the lockdown will go into next year. I do think it's necessary, the lockdown, but perhaps if they had done it earlier, we might be in a better position."
John Shinkin,67, said: "I'm retired and like to go to the pub to meet friends in the afternoons and now that will stop all over again. A lot of pensioners need to get out to meet people and have some company. So it's going to be hard. I can't see things being any better by Christmas. A lot of people won't abide by the rules as they did in March. They're fed up of all this and there's no end in sight."
Pete Burrows, a plumber, said: "Very hard on local businesses. I know a few pubs in Brentford that fear for the future. A lot of them are not independent so it will be out of their hands as to whether they could have to close for good. I can't see this being over by Christmas. Not at all. I think we are looking at next Spring before things can get back to normal unless there's a vaccine before then."
