Kirsty Matthews said she couldn't believe the feeling when she scored at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford Women's 4-2 win against Watford Ladies Development.

Matthews got the Bees' second goal to take them ahead after they equalised through an own goal, before Chloe Logie, and Eleonora Cottrell scored to wrap up a fine performance in front of 5,089 fans at the Gtech.

Matthews said that she had been trying to block out the fans noise during the game, but the noise when she scored the goal was unbelievable.

Speaking to club media, she said: "The occasion was amazing and I think it [her goal] was coming, we were getting forward and I was putting a few balls in the box.

"But to score that goal, it was incredible, the best feeling ever. Really buzzing to get that goal.

"When you are playing you kind of have to block it out, but when I scored it put us in the lead, I felt that we could fully enjoy this occasion.

"The support gave us that morale boost to think it is not just that eleven on the pitch or our squad, it was everyone here backing us, the women and Brentford as a club.

"It meant everything with the fans staying to the end, it was nice.

"Not just for this season, but as a club this is a moment we can look back on and be proud of how far we have come and drive forward from here."

Captain for the day Sophie Troth had a big hand in the equaliser, flicking the ball on from a corner that was then turned in by a Watford defender and she said that Karleigh Osborne reminding them to be calm played a big part in their comprehensive second half performance.

She said: "We were all so nervous about it and during the first 20 minutes especially it was a bit all over the place and we needed to calm down.

"He [Osborne] just came into the dressing room and told us to calm down and said to play our own game and the goals would come.

"We did have a few shots in the first half and it was a bit unlucky that they didn't go in, but 'calm down, play your game, and you will get a goal' and we did. Four of them.

"At the start it was crazy because we would complete one pass and everyone would go mad and we were going 'oh my gosh'.

"But after that we got into it and it gave us a real push when we got towards goal to finish it off."
