Karleigh Osborne thought Brentford Women played champagne football in their L&SERWFL League Cup win over AFC Acorns.

Brentford fell behind after just two minutes courtesy of Sami Phillips, but Nikki Saunders struck back quickly and Kirsty Matthews added a second after half-time to knock out the higher league opposition.

Osborne couldn't speak highly enough of his players as they produced a performance of the highest order to knock out a team in the L&SERWFL Premier Division side.

Speaking to club media, he said: "We just played some really good football and I have been waiting for that performance for a while.

"I have been waiting for that kind of energy, intensity, and those patterns of play and it would have been nice to get a few more goals just as a reward.

"We have beaten a team in the league above us, and comfortably in terms of the way that we played, so I am over the moon.

"I thought we were especially good in the second half and our second goal was fantastic, if that is a good which is scored in the Premier League then they will be speaking about it for a long time.

"We started a bit slow in the first half, but how we did things after in the second half we just looked like a complete team.

"Some really good football, really good performances, and I am proud of each and every one of them."

Osborne was especially happy with the way Laura Miller and Sophie Troth were able to control the game for the Bees in the midfield.

He said: "They [Miller and Troth] were brilliant, I thought they were fantastic.

"At half-time I had a word with both of them and I said I wanted more from them, that I needed to see them controlling the game and making things happen and they went and answered me on that.

"I thought Laura [Miller] controlled the game in the second half, from start to finish she did that and was brilliant.

"She is an extremely talented footballer and we are lucky to have her here, and I will keep pushing her to give me more because I know that she possesses some real talent.

"I thought the work rate of everyone in the second half was magnificent, I thought Mollie [Holmes] was brilliant on the defensive side, mopping things up."
