Edon Pruti felt the defence let the team down after Brentford B put in a strong performance, only to let a one-goal lead slip and fall to a second straight defeat 2-1 against Blackburn Rovers under-21s.

He said: "I think we know that we have played very well today, but it is frustrating that we have lost the game, especially with how dominant we were the entire time.

"If we play like that for the remainder of this competition then we will do just fine.

"There were two counter attack goals, and if you switch off, especially as a defender, then you just don't have a good game.

"A defender has to defend well for 90 plus minutes, not 86 minutes, so it is a defining moment and the back three have to take accountability. We are the ones who conceded the goal and lost the game.

"We were trying to keep doing what we were doing after half-time because we were so dominant and were executing the game plan very well.

"I felt that if we just kept doing what we were doing then we would eventually get a goal, but it just didn't happen.

"If we keep going like we are then we will win the rest of the games in the competition."

Blackburn could have taken an early lead as Sam Burns was played in behind with a high ball over the Brentford back line and he tried to slip the ball past Ben Winterbottom, but the 'keeper flicked it wide of the post.

But after 14 minutes the Bees found the back of the net as the ball was switched to Val Adedokun, he came back inside and rolled the ball to Ryan Trevitt on the run and he calmly stroked it home.

The lead lasted just nine minutes as Rovers countered quickly straight from the goalkeeper and a slick move up the field ended in the ball being squared to Ben Fyles to slot beyond Winterbottom.

It was a quick-fire double for Fyles as Eastham bowled the ball out to once again catch Brentford on the counter and the goal scorer darted down the right side of the box and slammed the ball from the angle into the net.

Brentford piled on the pressure before the half-time whistle blew, coming closest when Adedokun whipped it onto the head of Alex Gilbert, only for his header to be well saved by Jordan Eastham.

Trevitt almost turned provider early in the second half when as he got in down the side and sent the ball into the penalty area and found Michael Olakigbe, but his volley sailed over the top.

The woodwork came to the rescue for Blackburn when Gilbert found substitute Aaron Pressley, he took a touch and held off a defender but saw his shot come crashing back off the crossbar.
