A pair of second half goals saw Brentford Women comfortably into the second round of the County Cup with a 2-0 win over Actonians Reserves.

The Bees started a bit slowly but where well on top by the time the referee blew up for half-time and passed up some big chances right before the break.

Actonians missed a penalty early in the second half, before Demi Edwards notched and Kirsty Matthews scored a screamer to cap off a fine afternoon.

This victory was Karleigh Osborne's sides first win away from home this season and it sends them into the second-round of the County Cup.

It was a bit of a slow start, but Brentford had a massive chance to take the lead after 12 minutes when Nikki Saunders whipped in a cross and found Chloe Logie, but she sent it over the bar from close range.

Actonians threatened soon after as they won a free-kick in a good area and Rosie Hay rattled the crossbar with a fierce effort which looked like it might just drop into the net.

The game stalled during the middle of the first-half, but with seven minutes remaining in the half Logie slid Matthews in behind with a fine ball, but she curled it just wide of the post.

The Bees came close again minutes later as Saunders cut inside off the wing and with her left foot curled the ball towards the far corner, but again just wide of the post.

Ten minutes after the break Actonians won a penalty for a foul by Nadia Peters, but Azza Fouly on her debut for Brentford made a fine stop from Fiona Moloney's spot kick to deny the hosts.

This spurred the Bees on and ten minutes later they took the lead as Edwards was found in oceans of space 25 yards from goal and slammed a shot into the bottom left corner.

Fouly was called into action once more to deny Hay as she looked destined to level it up as she hit a stunning strike towards the top corner, only for Fouly to leap up and tip it over the bar.

With 12 minutes remaining Matthews added a second and it was a worldie, she came in off the right wing and unleashed a stunning effort straight into the postage stamp to give Brentford a two-goal cushion.

Matthews could even have added a second when Sophie Troth played her behind the Actonians defence, but she was denied by a good stop from Elisa Dogor.
