Karleigh Osborne felt that his Brentford Women side showed a level of desire and fight that teams in their own league couldn't have coped with in their 5-0 FA Cup defeat against Abingdon.

The Bees exited the FA Cup at the Second Qualifying Round stage after being on the wrong end of a big score against Abingdon on Sunday.

Osborne believed that the way his team played would have been difficult to deal with for most teams in their division, but were up against strong opposition in Abingdon.

Speaking to club media after the match he said: "I don't feel like it was a five-nil game, I think we performed a lot better than people will see on the score line.

"I am proud of my girls today in terms of the way they applied themselves, they kept fighting, they put in some good performances, and were willing to work to try and get back into the game.

"The desire has sometimes been something that we questioned ourselves about, when it gets tough do we dig in or do we stay away? But today everyone did.

"Everybody fought for it, everybody wanted to try and get something from the game, everybody put their body on the line and there were some fantastic blocks.

"I know we lost five-nil, but I thought our back four have been fantastic, we just let ourselves down with a few individual bits and a few sloppy mistakes.

"Next week I want to see a reaction and see them show the same fight, because I think if we show that fight then teams in our league won't live with that."

There was also a tribute played to Lilly Hadrava in goal for helping to keep the score down as low as it was against tough competition.

Osbrone said: "They [Abingdon] used their experience and their physical attributes better than us, but that is something we can learn from.

"We have a young team who are learning different things within the game, but I can't fault them today because they wanted to do the right things and fight for the badge and that is all I ever ask.

"Lilly [Hadrava] has been fantastic since she has come in and we are over the moon to have her here.

"We are blessed with some fantastic 'keepers, we have Emily Boycott as well who is a fantastic 'keeper and here and Lily are fighting it out for that top spot.

"Lilly made some fantastic saves today again and she made some last week; she is a really good goalkeeper with a bright future."
