Out of all the clubs in the Premier League, Brentford has some of the most players going to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Asia Cup tournaments.

Amidst a long list of injuries, the Bees now see four players heading to the AFCON and Asia Cups which begin on 13 and 12 January.

Brentford players heading to Africa Cup of Nations and Asia Cup

  • Saman Ghoddos (Iran),
  • Frank Onyeka (Nigeria)
  • Yoane Wissa (DR Congo)
  • Kim Ji-soo (South Korea)

Injured Brentford players

  • Rico Henry - Knee injury
  • Kevin Schade - Adductor injury
  • Aaron Hickey - Hamstring injury
  • Kristoffer Ajer - Foot injury
  • Bryan Mbeumo - Ankle injury

Suspended Brentford Players

  • Ben Mee - red card - back 21 Jan
  • Ivan Toney - betting ban - back 17 Jan

Bryan Mbeumo featured in all of Cameroon's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games, scoring in a 3-0 win against Burundi back in September 2023, but will be missing the tournament this year.

Manager, Thomas Frank, currently has eight first team players out of action excluding Mee and Toney who are due to return this month.

After Brentford's 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace for its last game of 2023, Frank spoke on Toney's return saying: "Even if we had everyone available and we had won five in a row, or if we had a few players out and lost a few games, I would always look forward to Ivan coming back.

"He is needed as a character, a leader and a good player."

Manchester City, Newcastle United and Burnley are the only clubs who have received zero call-ups to the international tournaments.

The AFCON finishes on 11 Feb and the Asia Cup 10 Feb.
