Wild Chiswick have started a GoFundMe page to help them install boxes as part of their efforts to save swifts in the borough.

The wildlife group have been asking residents to have these swift boxes installed in the areas of Chiswick where the birds are known to be, including: Devonshire Road, Grove Park Terrace, St Albans Road, Turnham Green, The Mall, and more.

The project has been enacted with help of funding from the Hounslow Council thriving communities fund, but due to the number of people taking them up on it the funding has run out and now they are looking for additional help to install all the swift boxes they have planned.

Wild Chiswick said on the GoFundMe page: "WildChiswick has been installing swift boxes across Chiswick with the help from Hounslow Council's thriving community fund.

"This project has been very successful with more requests for box installations than we had ever expected.

"This means we have 5 sites left to install boxes but have used up all our current funding!

"This is excellent news as it means people are keen to help this bird that is on the British Red list in threat of local extinction.

"Please can you help us buy the last boxes needed to install on the remaining sites for this year?"

The group are hoping to raise an additional £300 to give them the funding required to put up all the boxes required to help the swifts.

Swifts migrate 7000 miles from Africa to the UK every summer in order to nest, which is the only time they land.

The nesting sites of swifts are in crevices and holes in roofing areas, which are often filled in and this is leaving the birds homeless, and these boxes will help give the swifts a place to nest.
