Events coming up in Brentford
Friday: Thames Islands – Estuary Hopes, Upstream Dreams
In film and photos Jonathan Goldberg records his encounters along the River Thames islands: enchanted wildlife havens upstream, to the industrial marshlands of Essex.
Photographer Jonathan Goldberg's project explores the islands in the River Thames, of which there are about 180. They range in size and structure, from those with a bustling urban population like Canvey, to the more solitary hideouts that host a single dwelling, or those left untamed for wildlife. Jonathan senses the sediments of history, the quirks, but mostly the pervading force of the river, and the closeness to nature which it imbues within him.
Saturday: Bhuchar Boulevard – Evening Conversations
"You're the one with the identity crisis mum, not us!"
Acclaimed actor and writer, Sudha Bhuchar presents, Evening Conversations.
Middle class, middle aged multicultural mother of millennial sons, Sudha lives a "squeezed middle" life in Wimbledon. As she navigates her career, family and returning to India as an NRI (Non-Resident Indian), she is prompted to investigate her own sense of home and her place in the world.
This warm hearted monologue is inspired by Sudha's banter with her dual-heritage millennial sons who have grown up in leafy Wimbledon while her life has spanned three continents.
She invites her boys to 'crack open a cold one' and share their views on life. Will her fiercely British sons see their heritage as a place of strength or an unwelcome inheritance?
Dedicated to the late Philip Osment (director, writer and dramaturg) who inspired me and directed the original iteration of this show.
Sunday: Fresh artisan bread at Syon House
This pop-up artisan bread company is at Syon every Sunday selling sourdough loaves, huuuge donuts, sausage rolls, pies, scotch eggs, cakes, pastries (almond croissants to die for!)
Come along between 9am and 5pm and treat yourself.
