Traffic diversions are in place after a void was unearthed beneath Chiswick High Road at the junction with Cranbrook Road.

Chiswick High Road is closed to westbound traffic between Chiswick Lane and Turnham Green Terrace.

The void was discovered amid work on Cycleway 9, the most recent phase of which began earlier this month.

Closure of the road is described as a precautionary measure while the council works with Transport for London (TfL) and utilities firms to identify its cause and remedy.

Chiswick High Road remains open to eastbound traffic.

"The eastbound route on #Chiswick High Road remains open. We are working hard to install improved diversions today and restore two way traffic as soon as we can, however diversions will be in place for the time being. [3/4]

"There will be some disruption to traffic and we apologise for the inconvenience. We will make updates with information as we receive them and will issue further details on the Hounslow Highways and council websites. [4/4]"
