A University of West London (UWL) expert has been named among the most influential in her field for another year.

Professor Alison Wakefield has been recognised in the Most Inspiring Women in Cyber UK 2020 list.

It puts her and her work at the heart of national efforts to inspire and encourage a diverse future for the profession.

The award, presented by IT Security Guru, sees Alison join 25 leading figures who will continue to act as mentors and advocates for diversity in the field.

It comes just a year after she was recognised by SC Media UK as one of the UK's 50 most influential women in cyber security.

As well as being Professor of Criminology and Security Studies at UWL, Alison is a member of the executive of the University's Cybersecurity and Criminology Centre.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UWL, said:"This is incredibly well-deserved and to see Alison achieve yet more success and recognition for her important work in in cyber security is indeed welcome news.

"Not only are we delighted to have her with us sharing her expertise in research and teaching, but acting as an inspiration to our students as the next generation of diverse and talented security experts.

"Alison is also an Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute, Academic Adviser to the Chartered Security Professionals Registration Authority, and a member of a number of editorial boards and advisory councils."

Her fourth book, Security and Crime: Converging Perspectives on a Complex World, is due to be published by Sage next year.
