Ultra Low Emission Zone to border Brentford from next week

Brentford will soon be bordered by the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), as the scheme expands across the city.

The existing central ULEZ will grow to create a single larger zone up to, but not including, the North Circular Road (A406) and South Circular Road (A205).

From 25 October, the Mayor of London's ULEZ will see some parts of eastern Hounslow and Ealing brought into the scheme, including areas in Chiswick, Park Royal, Acton and Ealing Common.

This means that vehicles will need to meet the required emissions standards when driving within and into the expanded zone, or pay a daily charge.

First introduced in April 2019, ULEZ is already in place around areas of central London.

It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends (except Christmas day), with a £12.50 daily charge for vehicles that do not meet the required emissions standards.

Four out of five cars already meet these standards, but owners of the remaining older cars, motorcycles, lighter vans and minibuses have been advised to take action and check the new rules.

TfL say the ULEZ is expanding to improve air quality and toxic air pollution in London.

Signs are to be put up at every entry point to tell drivers when they are entering the zone and advance information signs will be installed on surrounding major roads.

You can see a map of exactly where the new expanded ULEZ covers and whether your vehicle meets the standards at Transport for London's (TfL) website.

A car and motorcycle scrappage scheme has also been launched to help low income and disabled Londoners scrap older, more polluting cars and motorcycles for cleaner vehicles.
