Hounslow Council has lifted the order on Tesco in Osterley

The prohibition notice served on the Tesco store Osterley has been lifted with immediate effect.

The notice was served after Hounslow Council officers inspecting the premises found the store, which stocks food, toiletries and household goods on the ground floor, was allowing access to and purchase of clothes and other non-essential items on its first floor.

The lifting of the notice follows a site visit by officers to the store following previous enforcement action.

Officers found that the supermarkets has made significant changes within the store following the serving of the notice and have stated they wish to work with the council to ensure the community is safe.

The changes include:

• A reduction in the number of people allowed in the store at any one time, with a traffic light system and added security to limit the people to this number with checks on face coverings.

• A range of additional measures taken within the store to ensure social distancing, including the removal of some displays and extra signage

• Closure of the café on the first floor.

Cllr Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency, said: "These are very welcome developments, and we are obviously pleased that Tesco have moved so decisively to ensure public health and compliance with the rules.

"My thanks go both to Tesco, and to our enforcement team for the good work done here.

"In view of the changes made which have been made to improve Covid-19 security at the store, the prohibition notice will be lifted immediately."
