The homeless man who was found dead underneath Chiswick flyover cared for a colony a feral cats near the site, it has emerged.

John Dwyer's body was found last week after police and the ambulance service were called amid concerns about his welfare.

It is believed he had lived under the flyover for many decades and was well-known to local people.

A worker at Hounslow Animal Welfare (HAWs) said they worked with John to care of the cats.

She said: "I'm a foster carer for HAWs and know we worked with this man in relation to caring for the cats. We trapped, neutered and released on the site and he knew eventually we were there only to help the cats.

"I've spoken to the trustees of Hounslow Animal Welfare Society and they've confirmed that someone is going regularly to feed the cat colony and look out for health issues.

"I know from previous discussions about the cats that the staff at B&Q look out for them too."

Flowers and messages have continued to be left at the site where John was living.
