Brentford shops who are open during lockdown should be able to challenge people not wearing masks without fear for their own safety, Hounslow Police have said.

It is compulsory to wear a face covering when shopping under the lockdown rules.

Police said: "Shops that are open during the pandemic should be able to challenge those who refuse to wear a mask without the threat of violence

"If you run a shop and fear for your safety, call the police."

They appealed to the public to wear a mask to protect themselves and others.
