AFTER a difficult academic year affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Year 13 students at Isleworth & Syon School have been celebrating their results earlier today (August 10).

Deputy Head Boy, Morgan Lawrence, earned a place at King's College London to read Psychology, while classmate Billy Mwangi will join him studying Accounting and Finance.

Jack Shiels will study Law at the University of Leeds, while Tayyab Abbasi will study Accounting and Finance at the University of Durham.

Science A levels have inspired several students to study Engineering, with Thomas Beagley and Ahmad Nuaymi taking the 'mechanical' route and Jakub Poskrop focusing on computing systems.

The school's other Deputy Head Boy, Avi Saluja, will study Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick.

Not all students are heading to university right away, with Lars-Leander Volle, one of the school's top performers taking a gap year to gain work and volunteering experience.

The school's vocational results were as impressive as ever, with most students earning Distinction* and Distinction grades, as per usual.

The marks in vocational sport have been consistently at this level for over six years, demonstrating the school's pedigree in this area.

Perhaps some of these students will pursue professional sporting careers like former Isleworth & Syon students Reece James, who plays for Chelsea and England, and Myles Peart-Harris who plays for recently promoted Premier League club, Brentford FC.

Oliver Turner-Blake is heading to the University of Mary Washington in the US, where he will study International Business on a rugby scholarship, joining a long line of Isleworthians who have taken this pathway.

The school's reputation as a place of sporting excellence, inside and outside the classroom, continues apace.

Amongst the vocational sport graduates are Joshua Dwyer and Nathaniel Lewis, who are both heading down to the coast to read Sports Therapy and Sport & Exercise Science at Chichester and Bournemouth universities respectively.

Lewis McLaughlin will be heading down the road to St Mary's University in Twickenham to study Physical Education, Sport and Youth Development.

The school's first-ever Head Girl, Alina Gangotra, will study Architecture at the University of Nottingham, while Cat Barrocas Marques will be heading to Royal Holloway to read Management with International Business.

Headteacher Mr Ferguson said: "I would like to give my sincere congratulations to all the students for their results.

"Our students have risen to the challenges of the past 18 months and should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.

"My thanks also to the staff who have worked tirelessly as both teachers and examiners this year.

"We wish students well with their next steps."
