A takeaway restaurant in Hounslow which had no smoke detectors caught on fire causing large damage to the ground floor.

A three-storey terraced building on Vicarage Farm Road in Hounslow West caught fire, causing damage to the majority of the ground floor where there is a takeaway restaurant.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to deal with the fire at 12.47am on Friday 5th May and was brought under control by 2.39am, with crews from Feltham, Heston, Hayes, Southall, and Northolt being called to help deal with the fire.

There were no injuries to anyone in the property, but it was found that there were no smoke detectors on the premises.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "This incident is a reminder of just how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your property.

"Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts. We encourage everyone to have smoke alarms fitted in every room where a fire could start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. It's important to test them regularly."
