A man believed to have been living rough under the Chiswick Flyover for 30 years has been found dead.

Police were called to the A4 across from the B&Q store on Tuesday along with the London Ambulance Service.

The man, who has been named as John Dwyer and was in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was well known to Hounslow Council and other agencies who had, for many years, been trying to persuade John to move from his encampment.

One resident near the scene said he was first seen in the area as long ago as the 1980s.

The flyover has been used by an increasing number of homeless people in recent years.

A resident in nearby Larch Drive said: "Quite a few people sleep under the flyover. It's got worse over the last few years. "

Local people have left messages alongside bouquets of flowers. One read: "To our lovely friend of 36 years, we will miss your quotes."

Another said: "To Mr A4, we will miss you."

Council Leader, Cllr Steven Curran, said: "This is very sad news and I would like to give my sincere condolences to John's family, friends and people that knew him.

"The Council will be liaising with the Coroner's office, as well as relatives and friends to make John's funeral arrangements."
