Headstones and gravestones have been located by developers Ballymore in the burial grounds of St Lawrence's Church in Brentford High Street.

As our pictures show, they have been placed away from the works and were seen being dusted down by archaeologists.

The Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) is currently carrying out an extended scope of evaluation within the St Lawrence Vicarage in Brentford High Street to establish the extent of the burial ground.

A Ballymore spokesperson told Nub News: "Upon taking ownership of the site, Ballymore located a pile of previously disturbed fragments of monuments and headstones and stored them in the new road area.

"These were recently moved by Ballymore under close supervision from MOLA, to allow MOLA to properly record the items as part of its evaluation work."

A special licence must be also be obtained from the government for exhumation and reburial.

It has been estimated that up to 200 exhumations may have to be made.

Permission was granted by the planning committee, on February 11, for St Lawrence's Church, to be allowed to be used for a various retail and business purposes, such as for a restaurant, pub or even nursery.

A block of apartments will also be built at the back of the church near the Augustus Close approach to Brentford Dock.
