The 40-year-old Chiswick based artist is hosting an art exhibition at Watermans today from 6-9pm and 2-3 September from 11-5pm, as part of the Creative Mile Brentford Art Trail amongst other artists.

At the 'SansArt' exhibition, you should expect bright, abstract and nature fuelled watercolour pieces, all inspired by the Brentford area.

Sangeeta Weatherley first pursued a career in IT back at her hometown Hyderabad, India, but now opts for a water colour set and nature.

After Sangeeta bumped into some watercolour artist in Pune India 8 years ago, she carried on developing her artistic passion and left the IT space.

However, once she came back to the UK in 2012, she wanted to develop her newfound passion and attended some art workshops but, they were "quite academic" and not "much fun" which set her back creatively.

She said: "I was doing a little bit, but never really felt very confident. So, I went and did some classes, went for some workshops, but they were quite academic, and it was not as much fun. It was killing my creativity."

Sangeeta's first art exhibition came in 2018 and it proved to be pivotal for her as she since has taken a different direction both artistically and personally.

She said: "After my first exhibition, I went through a little transformation, both in an artistic and personal front. I decided that you have to give yourself freedom to be.

"That change of mindset was a game changer and I realised that just putting colours on paper really impacts your mood in a very positive way," she added.

Apart from going on her own personal art journey, Sangeeta Weatherley has hosted events across London so that others can embark on theirs.

Sangeeta said: "During lockdown I went online and I was doing free sessions every Saturday. I was connecting with people and then I started to connect with a lot of locals and communities.

I do a lot of community events where I just set up a table and get people to sit down and paint. I do them in Hounslow, Ealing, mostly and sometimes with Hammersmith Council as well."

She admits: "I have learned so much in the last two, three years."

Sangeeta believes that aside from exhibitions displaying her art, they can serve as a place where people can make connections with others in the local community.

"Exhibitions are a great opportunity just for the community to get together and meet each other. It's not just talking to me and other artists, but they (visitors) might even bump into other locals who might be of interest to them. Connections happen, people make friends," she said.
