Chiswick Dog Show returns with Glastonbury Festival theme

By Hannah Davenport 19th Sep 2021

CHISWICK House Dog Show returns this year with a Glastonbury fancy dress theme and an eclectic range of categories to enter your pooch.

The theme, celebrating the 50th year of Glastonbury Festival, was rolled over from last year when the show was forced to cancel due to the pandemic.

Those entering the Fancy Dress competition (you can be an adult, dog or child to do this) should take note.

It will be the 16th year of the show, which is run by over 150 volunteers and raises money to maintain the Chiswick House grounds.

The event has humble beginnings, set up when a group of six regular dog-walkers (known as CHOW - Chiswick House Organised Walkers) got together to try and tackle the growing issue of dog waste in the gardens.

A lack of bins was one problem and, unless things improved, leads were to become mandatory for all dogs in the park.

CHOW rallied together to try and raise money to buy dedicated waste bins and install free dog waste bag dispensers – from which the idea of Chiswick Dog Show was born.

Dog's Got Talent?

Among the categories, or 'classes' to enter are; Prettiest Bitch, Naughtiest Dog, My Dog's Got Talent, Best Groomed and Best Veteran.

The event has featured a range of surprise celebrity judges in the past, including David Tenant, Michael Ball and Ant McPartlin (from Ant and Dec)

Guests do not need a dog to attend, although it promises to be a real doggy day-out, with over 50 stalls to peruse including pet portraiture, canine charities, dog treats and 'every form of dog accessory imaginable'.

If you are a pooch owner and fancy your luck it costs £4 to enter a dog into a class and you can register on their website.

The show will take place 11am-4:15pm on Sunday 26 September, Cricket Pitch, Chiswick House and Gardens, with entrance to the show via the Staveley Road gate.
