Last night (17 October) Hounslow Council approved plan to allocate £500,000 to fund the design and bring application forward for 124 council homes in Commerce Road, Brentford.
£500,000 will deliver "Stage One of this project which will consists of design and reserved matters planning application and viability study".
If approval is granted for this stage of the application, then officers will return to cabinet in Autumn 2024 to seek approval for the delivery budget, the scheme and the procurement of a building contractor.
During the cabinet meeting, Katherine Dunne, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio holder for Climate, Environment and Transport said: "I am glad we are moving forward with this.
"It's a nice development for Syon & Brentford Lock...with new homes, new landscaping and new amenities and the fact that we have been able to secure this block for council homes, for our local tenants and social rent, fits in with everything we (Hounslow Council) are trying to do."
She added: "it helps us with our pledge for providing council homes and affordable housing.
"I am certain they will be very good quality homes, sustainable homes because everything we are building as a council is to the highest standards, especially when it comes to sustainability and energy efficiency."
The approved funding for the flats links to one of the council's priorities, A Liveable Hounslow, which is a commitent to buying 1000 council homes and 1000 social rent homes.
