Town centre litter has become an increasing problem

Brentford businesses are being invited to sign up to the Hounslow Council's Cleaner Greener Hounslow pledge.

The campaign aims to tackle litter in the town centre which is a particular problem around some of the fast food outlets.

Businesses are being asked to work together and pick up litter outside their premises and nearby hotspots.

They are also being encouraged to use a licensed waste carrier and put their rubbish out at the right time.

Residents are also asked to do their bit and throw their litter in a bin or take it home.

The move is part of the Council's wider Cleaner Greener Hounslow campaign, that aims to tackle waste, while improving recycling and the street environment across the Borough.

Councillor Guy Lambert, Cabinet Member for Highways, Recycling and Companies said: "The Cleaner Greener campaign encourages everyone to do their bit and support the street cleaning teams who have worked tirelessly, to keep the borough looking clean and tidy, during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Sadly this isn't enough. Some people think it's ok to drop litter on the ground. It's not.

"By working together, residents and businesses can all play their part in keeping litter off the high street. After all, no one likes a messy town centre; it's not good for business and it doesn't attract customers.

"If you're a local business, please get involved, sign-up and encourage your customers to act responsibly. In return, we'll shout about what you're doing to support the local area and keep it looking at its best."

Participating businesses will be listed as a campaign supporter. Campaign materials – posters, stickers and social media graphics, will also be given to those that take part.
