A building at The Brentford Project has been shortlisted in the annual Housing Design Awards.

The Brunel Building on Catherine Wheel Road provides a mix of 66 private dwellings on the ground floor and space for a café and restaurant facing the dock.

Designed by Glenn Howells Architects with inspiration taken from the site's industrial history, the Brunel Building is a modern interpretation of a dockside warehouse.

Its defining feature are the large cantilever balconies that took inspiration from the adjacent bridge designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel over the River Brent.

The Housing Design Awards launched in 1948 in the same sitting of Parliament as the NHS to reward municipal post-war rebuilding.

It remains the only Awards promoted by all five major professional institutions – RICS, RIBA, RTPI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

The 2022 Housing Design Award winners will be announced in July.
