Brentford Voices: 'A few days for Christmas isn't worth another lockdown'
Christmas is coming but will it resemble anything like a normal yuletide as Covid-19 continues to spread?
The government is reported to be considering easing restrictions for the festive period so that families can be together for at least a few days.
But scientists have warned this could mean up to a month of a further lockdown after the Christmas holiday. There is also a risk of families infecting each other.
What do Brentford people think? Should we sacrifice a "normal" Christmas and live within the restrictions into the New Year?
Here's a selection of views from people in the high street.
Caroline Lidstone, 36, of Isleworth: "I think it's just too much of a risk and another month of lockdown is too big a price to pay. I'm planning on staying at home. I have family in Sussex but we won't be meeting."
Kevin Peters, 55, of Ealing Road: "I think it's ridiculous to have to go into another lockdown just for a few days of being with family. I know it's going to be hard not seeing loved ones, but it's too much of a risk. My father is elderly with a heart condition. I just couldn't risk it."
Kenny Hartland, 31, of Brentford Dock: "It's too early to start planning for Christmas. The infection rate may go down by December, the whole situation could be different. I think everyone should just wait and see what happens a few weeks into December."
Cathy Hurst, 29, of Hounslow: "No way – another lockdown after Christmas? In that case, I don't think it's worth it. Everyone needs to hunker down for the winter now so we can get out of this in the New Year when there's also likely to be a vaccine. We need to get back to proper normal, not half-lockdowns and tier systems. It's not doing people any good, but it's better than getting the virus."
Mark Wallace, 60, of London Road: "I think everyone is getting too complacent now that a vaccine is getting closer. But this virus is still spreading and killing a lot of people. People put too much store by Christmas. I'd rather get through the winter and look forward to getting back in the pub gardens in the Spring. People are like big kids when it comes to Christmas. Can't they make a sacrifice just for this year?"
