The wooden footbridge at Brentford's Boston Manor Park will be replaced later this year.

An inspection of the bridge in 2021, which crosses the Grand Union Canal into Boston Manor Park from Transport Avenue, gave rise to safety concerns and it has been closed ever since.

A spokesperson for Hounslow Council said: "Inspectors found that the bridge was showing signs of rot and had become unsteady, making it unsafe for public use."

Since the closure, officers from the council have been working with partners from Hounslow Highways and the Canal and River Trust on the way forward for the water crossing.

Designs have now been proposed for a new metal span to replace it.

The span will be flatter than the wooden one and will join the existing steps, which will also be repaired and ready for public use later this year.
