Brentford student wins prestigious design award
A UNIVERSITY of West London (UWL) student designer has become the university's first student to win a national industry award.
Final-year Graphic Design student, Luna Khan, was named as a winner in this year's prestigious D&AD New Blood Awards – an industry-led initiative to celebrate the best new talent in art and design.
Her video 'Making Room for Menopause' offers an engaging way for young people to learn more about the health topic.
Luna will now be the first student from UWL to receive a coveted student Pencil Award at a live ceremony later this summer, following her YCN Design Award last year.
Luna said: "I'm so pleased to have won this award and feel very lucky to have been surrounded by such excellent lecturers at UWL who all pushed me to make the best designs I can.
"My degree course has given me so much room for experimentation within my work and it's been a great way to help me explore my skills and decide on where I wanted to take my career in the creative industries once I finish my course."
Paul Lohneis, Head of UWL's London School of Film, Media and Design, said: "This is a huge achievement for Luna and we are incredibly proud of how well she has done in the D&AD New Blood Awards which are the very top of the pyramid for design students.
"Supporting all our students to succeed is another way in which we can be sure we are giving them opportunities to gain valuable industry experience and have the very best start possible to their careers."
