MANAGER and owner of Brentford pub Magpie and Crown said he will be dressed as a fried egg at this week's quiz night on Thursday.

The quiz should attract some local eggheads, for an evening of fun run by pub owner Scott Illman, who will be hoping to not scramble his answers on the night.

The appropriately named 'Most Ridiculous Pub Quiz' takes place weekly at the Brentford High Street pub and usually features Illman dressed up in unusual garments.

According to Illman, the quiz will have "world beating prizes", including a loaf of bread for the runner up.

The event also features a 'say as you see round' and winners will get 30 seconds of glory during which time they can hold the pub trophy.

Thursday night quizzes are among a jam-packed line-up of pub events, which include live music Friday and Saturday night, with karaoke on the first Saturday of the month.

Comedy evenings will take place every Monday evening from October and there is also a music quiz the first Monday of every month hosted by Brentford residents.

Illman, who used to own The Bedford in Balham pub where Ed Sheeran used to perform, said the Brentford and Ealing music scene rivals that of Liverpool.

Despite retiring out of the pub business in 2017, Illman took on the Magpie and Crown this April after seeing it sit empty.

He said: "Magpie has been the hardest and most fun pub I've ever run.

"Hardest because it's the smallest in terms of turnover and the smaller the venue the harder the work.

"But it's been the most fun, mainly because it's near my friends and the general Brentford community."

Illman added he would love people to come and support the Magpie but if not, encouraged people to try and go local and support other businesses in the area where they can.

The Magpie and Crown has been a pub since 1641.

The quiz night takes place on Thursdays from 8pm, with free entry.
