A new Park Ranger service was among the initiatives unveiled by Hounslow Council last week to tackle waste and litter in the borough.

Park Rangers will address environmental anti-social behaviour in parks and have the power to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to people found breaking the rules.

It will be a 12-month pilot rolled out across the borough to drive down levels of fly-tipping and littering.

The Council plans to invest £3.85million in an ambitious scheme to take on rubbish and encourage recycling as part of their Cleaner, Greener Hounslow vision.

Other proposals unveiled in the new Local Environmental Improvement Programme for 2021-23 include:

- Introducing a 'Hotspot' deep cleansing service to clean up grime spots.

- Planting more trees across the borough, including Christmas trees in prominent places in each ward.

- Continuing the Council's Pothole Pledge, which will see a further 13 roads completed this year.

Cllr Guy Lambert for Highways, Recycling and Companies wants to see recycling rates in the borough pushed from their current level at 35%, up to 50%.

Cllr Lambert said: "Building civic pride by tackling waste, litter, improving recycling rates and ensuring our streets and parks are clean and tidy is a priority for Hounslow.

"We know residents want to live and work in streets and spaces that are free of litter, dumped waste and graffiti, which is why we are pushing ahead with plans to invest £3.85m in improving the environment of the borough."
