Brentford: Free Creative Mile event returns ‘even bigger’ for 2023 – joining forces with Totally Thames festival
Creative Mile, Brentford's free art trail, will run from September 1 to 3 and is set to showcase 70 local artists - celebrating West London's creative community.
Last year, over 3,000 people joined in. This year's event is set to be even bigger, with more venues taking part. A mix of studios, galleries, arts centres, old industrial properties, heritage properties, and museums will participate.
Contemporary artist 'Mr Mr Pearce', Creative Director of Creative Mile, said: "It's great when local artists and makers exhibit in unique venues.
"At Creative Mile, there's a real buzz through Brentford, full of high energy and community spirit. A big thank you to artists and creatives for the work they've created and thanks to the sponsors, grant providers and our volunteers."
For the event's third year, the artistic theme for 2023 will celebrate 'water'. Creative Mile is collaborating with Totally Thames festival, starting this year in Brentford.
A spokesperson said: "Waterways flowing through Brentford are the Thames, River Brent, Grand Union canal and these have influenced our past and future.
"This year we are celebrating water as our artistic theme and Creative Mile is collaborating with the Totally Thames festival. It's the first time Totally Thames is coming to Brentford, there will be special events and performances over the weekend.
"Totally Thames celebrates the capital's river with a month of exciting events at innovative festival hubs across London."
Some venues joining Brentford's Creative Mile have recently opened, and others are new to the town. Marthe Armitage Prints moved to Brentford Lock last year. Great West Gallery brings a fresh cultural energy to West London. Digital Dock hosts fortnightly life drawing classes called "Brentford Nudes".
Boston Manor House re-opened in July, after six years of extensive renovations. There will be tours and exhibitions illustrating the work of heritage craftspeople involved in restoring the historic interiors.
Jimmy Choo's London Fashion Academy opened workshops and design studios at Boston Manor House and will be doing demonstrations. St Paul's one of Brentford's focal landmarks, is opening the space for exhibitions, plus visitors can enjoy a break at Spire Café.
