Body of a man found in Brentford canal

The body of a man has been found in a canal in Brentford today (Tuesday, October 4).

Police were called to Grand Union Canal around midday to reports of a person in the water.

Emergency services attended the scene near riverside warehouses, close to the train tracks crossing.

They recovered the body of man in his sixties from the water.

Forensics teams have been at the scene and while circumstances have not been determined, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police, who are seeking to locate his next of kin, have asked that anyone with information contact them on 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said, "On Tuesday, 4 October at 11:59hrs police were called to Grand Union Canal, Brentford to reports of a person in the canal. Emergence services attended and a man in his sixties was recovered from the water.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to contact his next of kin. A scene is in place. Enquiries continue"
