Hounslow Council is to begin arrangements for the funeral of the homeless man found dead under the Chiswick flyover.

John Dwyer, who was in his 70s, lived under the flyover for more than 30 years and his body was found last month.

The coroner said that he died of natural causes and has now given the council the go-ahead to organise his funeral.

The council and police have tried to locate Mr Dwyer's relatives but have been unable to do so.

Council Leader, Cllr Steve Curran, said: "The death of local resident, John Dwyer, who was in his seventies and a well-known character across the borough and further afield has sparked a great deal of interest from residents and the media alike.

"Mr Dwyer lived beneath the A4 flyover at Chiswick roundabout for more than 30 years.

"While the Council's housing team and others worked very hard over many years to provide a home for Mr Dwyer in Chiswick, their efforts unfortunately were unsuccessful.

"Although last year, the Housing Team did manage to place Mr Dwyer in a home for a short while, but unfortunately, he couldn't settle and he decided to return to his encampment which he called home.

"The police and the council have made extensive efforts to locate relatives of Mr Dwyer but to date have been unsuccessful.

"The council will now make arrangements for Mr Dwyer's funeral."
