Brentford Women safely navigated higher league opposition as they progressed into the next round of the L&SERWFL League Cup with a 2-1 win over AFC Acorns.
Sami Phillips scored after just two minutes to give Brentford a tough task for the afternoon before Nikki Saunders quickly struck back.
The Bees pushed hard to find a second and Kirsty Matthews netted halfway through the second half to send Brentford into the next round.
This win sends Brentford into the third round of the League Cup and will soon find out who their opponents will be.
It took just two minutes for Acorns to take the lead as Chloe Chesworth delivered a ball in to Phillips, who brought the ball down in space and nestled the ball in the bottom corner.
Brentford were not behind for too long as after 16 minutes Matthews saw Lauren Graves in the Acorns goal tip her free-kick over the top, but from the resulting corner Saunders curled the dead ball directly into the near post catching everyone out to level the scores.
The goal energised Saunders and she ghosted inside her marker on the left and looked to curl the ball into the far corner but Graves made the save.
Then shortly after Laura Miller poked the ball in behind and Chloe Logie ran in behind and scooped the ball over the goalkeeper but it did not quite drop in time and bounced off the bar and over.
Alicia Haworth was struggling to keep Saunders at bay and as the first half was drawing to a close, the Brentford winger skipped beyond her with ease and picked out to the top corner from just inside the area, only for Graves to deny her once again.
Graves was almost single-handedly keeping AFC Acorns in the game and just after the restart was called into action once more as Matthews shot from just outside the area but she was equal to it.
After Logie had a goal disallowed for offside, Matthews gave the Bees the lead after Graves prevented Logie from scoring herself but could only spill it out and the winger was first to react and tap home.
Once Brentford took the lead, they did well to control the tempo and did not allow their higher division opponents a route back into the game and could even have had another when Logie shot just wide of the mark from inside the box.
