Hackney scored a late equaliser to put a spanner in the works of Brentford Women's title charge as they were made to settle for a 2-2 draw.
The game took a while to warm up and it took until the second half for Kirsty Matthews to open the scoring, but Hackney immediately struck back through Natalie White.
Chloe Logie thought she might have got the winner when she scored with 18 minutes remaining, but Kate Meeman once again pegged them back.
Goal difference is now all that separates the Bees from Clapton Community after both teams have played 13 matches, but Brentford do trail by seven goals.
There were big shouts for a Brentford penalty after 15 minutes when Logie broke through on goal and Naomi Gross raced out to deny her and seemed to chop down the Brentford number nine without making contact with the ball, but the referee said there was nothing doing.
The hosts could have struck themselves after 21 minutes when Kea Felix jinked inside off the left and looked to whip a shot towards the far corner, but it flashed just the wrong side of the upright.
Ten minutes into the second half Matthews threaded a pass through to Sophie Troth, she swivelled and took a shot from the edge of the area, but it was a comfortable save for Gross.
Just a minute later the Bees took the lead as the ball sat up for Matthews from way out and she lashed the ball into the top corner of the net, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
It didn't take long for the league's bottom club to strike back as Hackney played a long ball out from the back and White raced through and played a composed finish beyond Azza Fouly.
Maddie Heavingham-Ford hurled a long throw to send Logie beyond the backline, she shielded the ball away from the defender and thumped her finish into the net to record her 20th goal of the season.
This goal invigorated Hackney and they went hunting for an equaliser and found it in the 82nd minute when Fouly got down well to make a save from Natalie White, but it went to Meeman, who turned home.
Fouly then had to come off after she was struck in the face by the ball, leading to a lengthy stoppage as she was being treated, and Eleonora Cottrell came on between the sticks to replace her.
