It's only one week away on Friday but how likely is Brentford to get a white Christmas this year?

Snow has been considered a symbol of Christmas for centuries, inspiring the Bing Crosby classic I'm Dreaming of A White Christmas.

But the Met Office says snow is more likely after Christmas and 2020 is likely to be no different.

The forecast is for some sunshine and showers with temperatures of around 6C – far too mild for the white stuff.

The last time the country saw a truly white Christmas with snow settling on the ground was 2010.

This was an "extremely unusual" year, the Met Office says.

In fact, snowfall is more probable between January and March than December.

Romantic notions of a white Christmas are rooted in the past for a reason.

The Met Office said: "The Dickensian scene of widespread snow lying on the ground on Christmas Day is much rarer.

"White Christmases were more frequent in the 18th and 19th centuries, even more so before the change of calendar in 1752 which effectively brought Christmas Day back by 12 days.

"Climate change has also brought higher average temperatures over land and sea and this generally reduced the chances of a white Christmas."

There has been a widespread covering of snow on the ground just four times since 1960 - in 1981,1995, 2009 and 2010.
